It's not going so well.

Emma is terrified of letting us touch her ears, and won't touch them herself. She knew before we pierced her that we would have to clean them and turn them, but we had to hold her down to clean them last night and this morning. I let her watch a YouTube video of a girl cleaning her earrings, and she was excited to be a big girl, but then she screamed and cried when we actually went in the bathroom to do it.

If anyone out there has suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I hate to take the earrings out, because I know she'll regret it and want them back. She's just built it into a scary thing in her head. We work so hard with her to help her get over other fears, and I don't want to just give up without trying to help her get comfortable with this.

We're going to keep at it for at least a few days - we're going to Grandma and Grandpa's tomorrow, and maybe she'll let Nurse Grandma help out. Wish us luck!

Maybe Grandma can help make it a "big deal" as in how pretty they are etc.

You might want to take the attention of them right now too. I know if Alex gets wound up...he just keeps going. Can you clean them after she falls asleep or maybe in the tub? Maybe some tylenol???

I hope it all works out!!!

Poor Emma :0(

I try to let Frog know how long something will take - say the count of three and were done. Maybe 1 - 2 - 3 - for each ear?

Good luck!

Actually, we have some lidocaine gel, a topical anesthetic. Ask Emma's doctor if it would be OK for her to use and I would be glad to let you have some. It could numb the ear lobes a touch and help her out. The poor thing. The price we pay for beauty....

Well, I from reading your post above, the Hannah Montana motivation sounds like a great idea. I have no advise, as my little girls ears closed up and we are earring-less until a future date.
